Gail Emma Scott wrote several novels in her twenties but did not submit them for publishing until 2025, when she was 63. Born in Ohio, the author grew up in Austin, Texas during the tumultuous period when the public school system was undergoing racial integration in the early 1970s. Later the family moved to her father’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating from The Blake School in Minneapolis, Scott earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a masters’ degree from Columbia University’s School of Journalism.
